I'm currently working on the shorter Jönköping report and audience reaction post. Until then, take a little lookie at this interview with Jenny on Radio Bandit Gothenburg from last Monday. The interview starts after the second commercial break around the 11 minute mark.
An interview summary:
They chatted about the nice view from the studio and asked if Jenny has a phone with apps. They asked her favorite app and she said its a weather app. They chatted about the success of the first album and how that felt. Jenny said the record companies opened up new floors to deal with the success.
They asked if there were a lot of people who wanted their opinions known for the second album. Jenny said she thought they lost a little magic because before they were four people from Gothenburg and they only wanted to be themselves. Later, they had people come in and tell them, 'this is how you should be normal' but it wasn't their normal.
She talked about going to parties and seeing people like Claudia Schiffer and Helena Christiansen walking around. She would see these beautiful, successful women walking around and it would just be like "Hi, I'm from Gothenburg!"
The hosts asked her if she ever asked herself "What am I doing here?"
Jenny said she got that feeling a lot and thinks it's good to have that question. It's good to ask and try to answer that question all the time. She said it was obvious she isn't the kind of person to be at parties and galas all the time. She doesn't have a connection to that life. She is a completely different type of person and thinks it's nice to be that way.
They asked her about Ace of Base and her solo work.
She said she recorded a bunch of songs when Ace of Base weren't so active, but that was a million years ago. She mentioned that "My Story" was just released a few days prior and talked about how the album is connected to the book.
They mentioned the that the first printing of the book was sold out and Jenny added that the second printings was also sold out and now the paperback version is being printed.
They asked her what type of music she is singing.
She mentioned that it is a dance album and says that when a woman from Ace of Base does an album, it is expected that it should have a crossover dance floor radio sound to it. She said she didn't think it would work with a tiny fiddle acoustic sound because she already does that type of music a lot during her lectures in the churches. But she wanted to do something where she could really be herself.
She mentioned that she wants to make three different albums - one dance, one rock, and one acoustic.
They asked her if this is indeed the plan.
Jenny said she thinks so and mentioned that she has to start somewhere. She started with dance because it turned out well.
They talked about the juxtaposition of the two worlds - one celebrity world and the other everyday world at home.
They asked her if people ever asked who was Linn and who was Jenny.
Jenny said it was not so normal or common. Most people knew who Linn was so they thought the other one must be Jenny.
They asked about Linn leaving AOB and not being a part of it any longer.
Jenny mentioned that they still have ties to the band.
They asked her to clarify because there is a new album with new women being released.
Jenny said they have a twenty year history together and you can't say it didn't exist. She said there is a lot of history behind it. They worked hard on it together throughout the years gone by.
And finally, they asked her to name the biggest star she has met.
She mentioned Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, and Madonna.
They asked if she ever had a conversation with him.
She said she hadn't. She talked about being backstage, about how there were 26 people pulling at him. She didn't go up to him and say, "I'm Jenny. From Ace of Base. Gothenburg. You know." She just saw him and gave him a little nod out of respect.
They asked her about Whitney Houston as well, if it was before Whitney's current troubles.
Jenny said "I Will Always Love You" had just been released and commented that hearing the song in real life was different than hearing it on the radio or TV. She said it was a "Wow! Just wow!" feeling to hear it live.
